Brand new footage is making its way across social media and various online news publications showing the moment a passenger plane plunged into a death spiral before crashing in Brazil, killing all passengers on board at the time. A total of 62 people were on board the aircraft when it went down, according to the Voepass Linhas Aereas airline said.
A report from the Daily Mail says that firefighters have confirmed that the plane crashed in the city of Vinhedo and that they talked with the New York Times and confirmed there were no survivors. The footage, which is bone chilling, was aired on TV GloboNews in Brazil, which showed the plane spiral out of control just moments before it crashed into the ground. A different angle that was captured of the incident shows the plane going down before sending up a huge plume of smoke.
‘Voepass has activated all means to support those involved,’ a statement from the airline went on to say. ‘There is still no confirmation of how the accident occurred or the current situation of the people on board.’
The plane took off from Cascavel and was headed to Guarulhos and was flying at around 17,000 feet when it started going down.
‘I would like everyone to stand up so that we can observe a minute of silence because a plane has just crashed in the city of Vinhedo, in São Paulo, with 58 passengers and 4 crew members and it appears they all died,’ Lula remarked in a statement posted on X.
Brazil’s Civil Defense says the plane struck several houses within the residential area, CNN Brasil reported. Sao Paulo federal police told ABC that one resident was injured following the impact. Hospitals in Vinhedo and Valinhos have been put on alert to receive any potential wounded. Sao Paulo’s Governor Tarcísio de Freitas is also returning from Vitória to manage the situation, according to officials.
The National Civil Aviation Agency revealed that the plane was an ATR-72-500. ‘The Superintendence of Technical and Scientific Police (SPTC), the Civil and Military Police are mobilized to rescue the victims,’ his agency commented. ‘Teams from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) and those responsible for collecting bodies were also sent to reinforce the work.’
Data that has been taken from the flight tracker shows that the plane lost close to 13,000 feet in elevation in under two minutes before the final crash. The ATR-72-500 is capable of flying at a maximum altitude of 10,000 feet at a maximum speed of 316.9 mph. Experts say the plane was 14-years-old. That might have played a significant role in any malfunction the craft experienced that led to the crash. Along with how much maintenance it needed before takeoff if any.
Pray for those who just lost people they love dearly in this horrible incident.
