We’re living in a really dangerous time in human history, especially here in the United States. Once, long, long ago, people could leave their doors and windows unlocked most of the night. That seems like a cliche, but it really was that way for a short time. The reason for this level of societal peace and cooperation was shared values and beliefs. The nation was majority Christian at that time and most folks held to the same ideology, with some differences here and there.
Progressives have destroyed the common ground we once held and has sowed deep division in our country by race, religion, and especially political ideology. There is a deep, deep entitlement attitude that has corrupted a lot of good individuals and turned them into criminals. Now, it’s almost essential to your own safety and security to exercise your Second Amendment right to own a gun.
Things are so bad, that, according to a report from Military.Com, you’re actually eight times more likely to be involved in a home invasion than you are a house fire.
Welcome to modernity.
Whenever a person gains access to your home without your permission, and when their presence is unwanted, regardless of the reason, that is a home invasion. A lot of you might be thinking that since you don’t live in a high crime area, you don’t have much to be concerned about. Think again. Plenty of stories hit the news of home invasions happening in the suburbs and rural areas. This is why we all need to take some time to develop a solid home defense strategy before the crap hits the fan.
While a gun is a super good weapon to have in your home, the most important tool of self-defense you own is your brain. Being able to think tactically can make all the difference when it comes to surviving a home invasion. This goes beyond knowing how to shoot effectively.
Military.Com provided a list of five defense tactics you can use in a home invasion situation:
You need to develop a code word that will tell your entire family that it’s time to spring into action. You don’t need to make up some kind of secret code. The word “escape” works very well and is simple and straight to the point. Forget about “red wolf” and use something simple.
Designate a “safe room” in your home where everyone can go at the same time. This room should be stocked with several specific items that will help you survive the upcoming fight. The list of items isn’t that long, but the list is outside the scope of this article. The one thing that you must have in this room is a phone that can be used to call the police.
Do not, under any circumstances, leave the safe room. If you have your family in the room with you, resist the urge to put on your cape and fight the invaders single handedly.
The fourth self-defense tip is to create what is known as a “fatal funnel.” If you have a gun in the home, you want to position yourself in a corner of the safe room that is opposite from the entrance. This will provide you with ample time to decide, should the invader gain entrance to the room, whether or not you want to fire the weapon and use lethal force. The bad guy will have to assess the whole room, which takes precious time away from him or her, while you only have to decide if you want to pull the trigger or not. One note of caution. Please confirm your target. You don’t want to accidentally shoot a police officer.
Stay in the safe room until the police arrive, no matter how long it takes. Even if you are pretty sure the home invasion is finished and the intruders have left, do not leave the safe room. You can’t be sure that the attackers aren’t lying in wait to take your family by force to hold them hostage or cause harm. Stay in the room until the police have cleared the house and tell you to come out before you decide the home invasion is over.
You don’t want to end being a victim of a home invasion all because you didn’t think it would happen to you. It can happen to anyone. Always be prepared.
