Over the course of the last decade, we’ve constantly been told we’re living in “unprecedented times” and you know what? That’s true. We’ve witnessed a ton of unusual events that have happened all over the globe that have had a massive impact on our society as a whole. I am, of course, referring mostly to the coronavirus pandemic and the downward spiral of our current economy.
If there’s one lesson we’ve learned from all of this, it’s the value of being prepared for emergency disasters and similar situations. A critical component of preparation is making sure to stockpile food to ensure you and your loved ones have enough to eat if, for some reason, you cannot leave your house or shelter.
Not all foods are equal, of course. You don’t want to stock your pantries with tons of Little Debbie snack cakes, no matter tasty they might be. These kind of foods don’t have the nutrients and protein you need to survive. Of course, depending on the survival situation you find yourself in, storing meat for long lengths of time might not be possible.
So what kind of foods should you have in your emergency stash?
Thankfully, the folks over at Mind4Survival recently created a video that contains 15 foods that your stockpile absolutely needs to have. These never expire so you don’t have to worry about getting a nasty case of food poisoning, which, in an emergency situation could potentially be fatal.
One of the top foods the folks at Mind4Survival recommends having in your stockpile is canned meat. I know, I know. It’s not always super delicious. And if you grew up in a blue collar family that ever experienced lean times financially, you probably have nightmares about eating stuff like Spam, but hey, it’s food and it will keep you alive. Plus canned meat keeps for a very long time and doesn’t require refrigeration.
The video also recommends that you take into consideration variety, as this will prevent food fatigue and encourage you to continue eating the foods you need.
Another big recommendation is canned vegetables. Vegetables are chock full of vitamins and other nutrients such as fiber that you need to help with waste removal. That means poop. Just in case there are those on here who have no idea what I meant by “waste removal.”
Mind4Survival also recommend having a stash of instant coffee in your stockpile as well. This type of coffee is freeze dried to help preserve its flavor and potency for years. Of course, coffee also has caffeine in it which can be critical in helping you to stay alert during emergency situations and reducing the effects of fatigue and stress. And when the crap hits the fan, there will be more than enough stress to go around.
All in all, the fifteen suggestions the video contains should be part of any stockpile of emergency food. None of us knows when disaster will strike. Earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, these are just a few of the things we need to be prepared for. Don’t be caught without needed supplies. Your life might depend on it.
