Russian President Vladimir Putin made a terrifying statement on Tuesday that brings us ever closer to a massive global conflict, as he lowered the threshold for his nation’s use of nuclear weapons. Of course, this is in response to the idiotic move by President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine to hit targets located inside of Russian territory with longer range missiles. Oh and guess who gave them these weapons? We did. Or more accurately, the Biden-Harris administration.
It seems the parting gift the current administration wants to leave behind for the American people is a third world war. Couldn’t they just give us something more practical? Like a toaster or a gift certificate to Applebee’s?
The new doctrine from Russia opens up the possibility for nuclear retaliation by Moscow even to conventional attacks on the country by any country that is supported by nuclear power. Guys, this is bad. Very bad. We’ve been teetering back and forth on the edge of a cliff and this could push us all the way over.
According to the Associated Press:
Russia’s Defense Ministry said Ukraine fired six U.S.-made ATACMS missiles early Tuesday at a military facility in Russia’s Bryansk region that borders Ukraine, adding that air defenses shot down five of them and damaged one more. Ukraine’s military claimed the strike hit a Russian ammunition depot. While the doctrine envisions a possible nuclear response by Russia to such a conventional strike, it is formulated broadly to avoid a firm commitment to use nuclear weapons and keep Putin’s options open.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that the Ukrainian strike in Bryansk marked an escalation and urged the U.S. and other Western allies to study the modernized nuclear doctrine.
“If the long-range missiles are used from the territory of Ukraine against the Russian territory, it will mean that they are controlled by American military experts and we will view that as a qualitatively new phase of the Western war against Russia and respond accordingly,” Lavrov went on to say on the sidelines of the G20 meeting in Brazil without providing further details.
By approving this document, Putin has proven that he is absolutely ready to push the big red button of mass destruction. It’s not an empty threat. He will do it. Whatever it takes, to force the West to stand down, this man is willing to take that course of action.
Asked Tuesday if a Ukrainian attack with longer-range U.S. missiles could potentially trigger a nuclear response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov answered affirmatively, pointing to the doctrine’s provision that holds the door open for it after a conventional strike that raises critical threats for the “sovereignty and territorial integrity: of Russia and its ally, Belarus. Commenting on whether the updated doctrine was deliberately issued to follow Biden’s decision, Peskov said the document was published “in a timely manner” and that Putin instructed the government to update it earlier this year so that it is “in line with the current situation.”
“I’m unfortunately not surprised by the comments the Kremlin has made around the publication of this new, revised document,” U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller remarked, going on to add that since the war started, Russia has been trying to “coerce and intimidate both Ukraine and other countries around the world through irresponsible nuclear rhetoric and behavior.”
Miller then said that Washington has not seen any reason “to adjust our own nuclear posture, but we will continue to call on Russia to stop bellicose and irresponsible rhetoric.” Maybe not yet, but how far will Putin have to push things in the next two months to justify his use of these weapons in Ukraine?
We are living in dangerous times. We are inching closer and closer to another war between nations across the globe. Preparations for the worst case scenario need to be made while there is still an opportunity to do so.
