I didn’t think it was possible for things to get even more intense in the Middle East without fully exploding into a World War, but it looks like I was wrong. And yet, here we are, with yet another development pushing things forward inch-by-inch toward a conflict that will negatively impact the globe.
According to the Jerusalem Post, The United States is now calling on the UN Security Council to issue a response to Iran’s “flagrant violations” of its resolutions to arming terrorist groups. It also requested members that have direct channels to Tehran to put pressure on leaders to try and bring an end to Houthis from launching attacks that have placed civilians in danger.
“It is past time for the Houthis to cease their reckless and destabilizing behavior, and this council should ensure that there are consequences for their actions,” the US remrked on Monday during the UNSC’s emergency session concerning the threat of the Houthis.
The session followed last week’s petition from Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar to convene the meeting. “The Houthis have also taken hostages, including UN workers. I call on all countries who seek global stability to designate the Houthis as a terrorist organization,” Sa’ar said on Monday. “It’s time for the international community to take action to counter the Houthis’ aggression.”
While the UK said, “Iran bears responsibility for the actions of its proxies,” it also said Israeli action must be consistent with international humanitarian law. The UK added that it is concerned by Israel’s strikes on Yemeni civilian infrastructure, including Thursday’s strike on Sana’a’s airport, in which three people were killed and 16 were wounded.
UNSC members which includes Ecuador, Japan, France, Switzerland, also joined in condemning the Houthis’ attacks against the Jewish State, while still raising concerns about Israel doing their own attack on the airport. South Korea stated that they believe Israel does have its own reasons to respond to the Houthis, the country needs to ensure they do not cause any issues with humanitarian assistance.
The real question is how many more battles are going to pop up before things escalate and bigger nations get pulled into the war raging in the region? If Iran manages to craft a nuclear missile, they are going to use it on Israel. If that happens, we will intervene and attack Iran. Russia will no doubt step into the mix at that point, followed by China.
And that’s when all hell breaks loose.
We need to hope that nothing else accelerates this process.
