If you take a quick look around at our country, you can clearly see, at least at one point in history, we were the greatest nation on the planet. That title, for many decades, was undisputed. Thanks to the liberal policies of the radical left, which has infected the Democratic Party, we have fallen far from the position we once held. The United States is both figuratively and literally breaking apart all around us.
As The Economic Collapse notes, there are thousands of bridges that have become structurally unstable and some very high profile ones have totally crumbled in massive collapses. Hundreds of thousands of miles of highway and roads in the U.S. are full of holes and in desperate need of repair. Just take a drive across Indiana and you’ll get a taste for just how bad it can get. Trust me.
Sewer systems that have been around for ages are beginning to leak raw sewage and lead piping is poisoning kids left and right. Our power grid is pushed to its limits and is vulnerable to all kinds of attacks. Ports, dams, subway systems, bus terminals, you name it, it’s all falling apart.
The author of TEC made an excellent point when he wrote that the condition of our country’s infrastructure reflects who we are right now. And what, exactly is it saying about us? It’s nothing good, that I can tell you. We too are rusting and decaying, far removed from prosperous times.
When Joe Biden took over the presidency, he promised us that
“investment in U.S. infrastructure as a share of GDP has fallen by more than 40 percent since the 1960s”…
Public investment in U.S. infrastructure as a share of GDP has fallen by more than 40 percent since the 1960s. The World Economic Forum now ranks the United States 13th when it comes to the overall quality of infrastructure.
In light of that promise, Congress passed a piece of legislation that provided his administration with over $100,000,000,000 that would be spent on improving our nation’s infrastructure. Yet the vast majority of us have no idea where the money actually went. One thing I know for sure is that nothing major got repaired.
Back in 2021, the official White House website reported that there were 45,000 bridges and 20 percent of the country’s roads that were in bad shape.
More than 45,000 U.S. bridges and 1 in 5 miles of roads are in poor condition, per the American Society of Civil Engineers. In 2007, the I-35 bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis collapsed during rush hour, killing 13 and injuring 121.
It’s been a few years and the Department of Transportation is saying that “over 40,000 bridges” are now in poor condition. It increased instead of decreased. Again, what happened to the money set aside to improve infrastructure? Certainly didn’t go toward repairing bridges.
The Department of Transportation considers 6.8% of the over 600,000 bridges it tracks and rates to be in “poor” condition. That doesn’t sound too bad on a percentage basis, but it’s over 40,000 bridges in total.
In 2021, Biden and his flunkies were making a big deal about millions of Americans getting tap water through lead pipes.
Millions still get water from lead pipes, despite the fact that exposure to lead has irreversible health effects; in 2015, a state of emergency was declared in Flint, Michigan as citizens learned that their water supply contained toxic levels of lead.
Okay, this is a real problem impacting people’s health, right? So why wasn’t action taken to fix the issue? The EPA published an article in 2024 that revealed that “more than 9 million service lines” are currently made out of lead.
The EPA estimates that more than 9 million service lines are made of lead, a neurotoxin that can cause nervous system damage, learning disabilities and other health problems, especially in children. If lead pipes corrode, as in the infamous case of Flint, Michigan, they can poison drinking water. While no amount of lead exposure is safe, the federal rule now requires utilities to notify the public and improve corrosion treatment if lead in their water exceeds 10 parts per billion. Some homes in Syracuse, New York, recently tested at 70 parts per billion.
It always seems like the excuse our politicians give us for getting nothing done is they don’t have the money to complete these projects. Again, what was that $100 billion dollars used for? Did some of it makes it way over to Ukraine? What gives?
We collect more taxes than anywhere else in the world and yet we have extremely bad infrastructure. It’s unacceptable.
“Our crumbling infrastructure is a perfect metaphor for our crumbling society as a whole, and it is time for the American people to start demanding better from all levels of government,” the report concluded.
