If your eyes are truly open to what’s happening in the world right now, you’ll likely come to the conclusion that we’re living in a very pivotal moment in history, a time that will no doubt change things in many ways, some of which we simply cannot predict. But you can guarantee the lives of every person on earth and in future generations will be altered due to what unfolds in the coming years.
As of now, we’ve entered a time where it seems like every other day there’s a new development that leads to some kind of rumor of war being on the horizon. There’s so much death and destruction occurring in the Middle East and in the battle between Ukraine and Russia. And more and more international leaders are saying they’re ready to get involved in these conflicts.
Lots of folks have hope now that Trump and his administration are in office we’ll be able to avoid a third world war, but I don’t know about that. Things were already pretty far in that direction before President Donald Trump took over. Can he and his team ease tensions and bring about peace? Again, I don’t know.
One bit of good news in all of this mess is that officials in the U.S. are now having talks with the Russian government. On Monday of this week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio took a trip to Saudi Arabia where he will be sitting down and chatting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov concerning Ukraine.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was on his way to the country, amid expectations that peace talks on ending the war in Ukraine are about to begin.
Again, this is good news. However, cutting a deal with the Russians is not an easy task. Not by a long shot. For one, Ukrainians and other allies in Europe are demanding that Russia makes some territorial concessions, but they’ve already said there’s no chance of that happening.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday ruled out territorial concessions to Ukraine, setting out a tough opening stance on the eve of talks on Tuesday with U.S. President Donald Trump’s team in Saudi Arabia. Trump said after a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday that the two sides would begin talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
And why would they make these concessions? Russia is winning the fight with Ukraine and their forces are moving forward. There’s no need as they see things, to give up any territory they’ve taken.
And the longer Ukrainians wait to sit down and cut a deal, the more territory Russia takes and they lose. Russia has the leverage. And they know they have it.
Ukraine and our allies in Europe are also calling for the country to be allowed to join NATO and want to see Western troops serve as “peacekeepers” once the war is brought to an end.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer recently revealed that he is “ready and willing” to send British troops for that very purpose.
Europe is growing more hawkish in its rhetoric, seeing the need for a counterbalance against Trump efforts to secure lasting peace in Ukraine, which recently included Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announcing that the US does not see future NATO membership for Ukraine as a realistic possibility.
The latest shot across the bow is British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announcing that the UK is “ready and willing” to put British peacekeeping troops on the ground in Ukraine, and stressing it’s essential that the West backs Kyiv toward “securing a lasting peace in Ukraine that safeguards its sovereignty for the long term” which essential” to deter Putin from “further aggression.” There is as yet no framework for negotiated peace in place, and yet Starmer is talking boots on the ground.
But then you have Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky already throwing a monkey wrench into peace talks between the U.S. and Russia before they even have a chance to start. He recently spoke with Meet The Press where he stated that he will “never accept any decisions between the United States and Russia about Ukraine.”
Since were are the ones mostly funding this little war of his, I beg to differ. He will learn to accept what takes place and like it. Otherwise we pull our funding and other aid and let him go toe-to-toe with Russia all on his own.
Rather than work toward peace, Zelensky just tries to pull western nations into the conflict. The latest idea he cooked up would lead to the creation of an “armed forces of Europe.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for the creation of an “armed forces of Europe” to guard against Russia, appearing to suggest that the United States may no longer come to the continent’s aid. Zelensky, speaking on the second day of the Munich Security Conference, said Ukraine’s three-year fight against an invading Russian army has proved that a foundation exists for the creation of a European army that has long been discussed among some continental leaders.
“I really believe that time has come,” he said. “The armed forces of Europe must be created.”
Yeah, well, isn’t that what NATO is? Why is this guy so desperate to pull NATO into this conflict? Does he not realize he’ll start World War III? No doubt nuclear weapons will be utilized in a global war. He could end up being the cause of millions upon millions of deaths. How foolish is this fellow?
Earlier in the month, Trump sent out a contract that would ultimately give the United States a lot of control over the natural resources that are contained within Ukraine. That seemed to really increase his frustration with the current administration.
The Telegraph has obtained a draft of the pre-decisional contract, marked “Privileged & Confidential’ and dated Feb 7 2025. It states that the US and Ukraine should form a joint investment fund to ensure that “hostile parties to the conflict do not benefit from the reconstruction of Ukraine”.
The agreement covers the “economic value associated with resources of Ukraine”, including “mineral resources, oil and gas resources, ports, other infrastructure (as agreed)”, leaving it unclear what else might be encompassed. “This agreement shall be governed by New York law, without regard to conflict of laws principles,” it states. The US will take 50pc of recurring revenues received by Ukraine from extraction of resources, and 50pc of the financial value of “all new licences issued to third parties” for the future monetisation of resources. There will be “a lien on such revenues” in favour of the US. “That clause means ‘pay us first, and then feed your children’,” said one source close to the negotiations.
It did not take long for Kyiv to begin having a meltdown once they understood the agreement. What they really wanted was for Trump to be like Biden and just hand over hard earned tax dollars without having to give anything in return. Yeah, that’s not how this works.
If Ukraine does not sit down soon with Russia and work out a peace deal, they will ultimately end up paying a steep price for it. And they could potentially plunge the whole planet into war.
We’re teetering on the edge, ladies and gentlemen. The question is what will push us all the way over?
