The United States is currently locked into an epic battle with the communist nation of China for dominance in the technological arms space, and if I’m being honest, it appears the U.S. is starting to lose ground. And that wasn’t the case a decade ago, but we’ve lost a lot of steam since then, which does not bode well for our future. And not just ours, but that of the whole world. Communism must not be allowed to thrive and spread. It would destroy our civilization as we know it.
One of the big topics of conversation this week has been DeepSeek. Investor Kevin O’Leary, most well known as Mr. Wonderful from “Shark Tank” on ABC, said that this new AI tool that has been developed by China “rivals the best that US firms have to offer” and more importantly, they developed it “at a fraction of the cost.”
The Artificial Intelligence wars have begun.
China fired the first shot.
On Monday, $1 trillion in stock market value was wiped off the books of American tech companies after Chinese startup DeepSeek created an AI-tool that rivals the best that US firms have to offer – and at a fraction of the cost.
The Chinese AI technology led to a wave of panic on Wall Street. OpenAI cost billions of dollars to train and develop, however it only took millions of dollars to do the same with DeepSeek.
DeepSeek claims its engineers trained their AI-model with $6 million worth of computer chips, while leading AI-competitor, OpenAI, spent an estimated $3 billion training and developing its models in 2024 alone.
Early in the week, DeepSeek flew past OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT to become the top downloaded app in the Apple App Store. That’s an amazing accomplishment.
Marc Andreessen referred to it as an “AI’s Sputnik moment.”
It was nothing short of ‘AI’s Sputnik moment,’ according to Marc Andreessen, one of the foremost tech investors in the world, a reference to October 4, 1957, the day the Soviet Union beat the US to launch the first satellite into space.
Another big tech company from China, Alibaba, revealed a brand new AI model on Wednesday that it says is even better than the one from DeepSeek. Hard to believe, right? If this is true, China is accelerating in the world of technology far, far faster than we are. And that is terrifying. This lagging behind could be one of the reasons President Donald Trump has created the “Stargate Project” which is going to pump a massive $500 billion into developing AI in the U.S. by the end of the decade.
We’re not just falling behind in AI either. A new study that was recently released, titled, “China dominates the US in 57 of 64 critical technologies, up from just three in 2007,” has even worse news.
A comprehensive, 20-year study released by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute in 2024 calculated that China dominates the US in 57 of 64 critical technologies, up from just three in 2007. The US, which led in a whopping 60 sectors in 2007, now leads in just seven. ASPI based its rankings on cumulative innovative and high-impact research published and patented by national universities, labs, companies and state agencies.
In 2007, we were rocking it in the tech space, far ahead of China. Now, not even a full 20 years later, they’ve blasted past us. If this were an MMA fight, we’d be getting ground-and-pounded into oblivion right now.
Take a gander at what is happening concerning the race for unlimited clean energy.
China’s Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), also known as the “artificial sun,” has set a new world record by sustaining high-confinement plasma for an impressive 1,066 seconds. This achievement, reached on January 20, marks a major step forward in the quest to develop fusion power as a clean and limitless energy source.
The 1,066-second milestone represents a significant leap in fusion research. It was accomplished by the Institute of Plasma Physics (ASIPP) at the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (HFIPS), part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This new record greatly exceeds the previous world record of 403 seconds, also set by EAST in 2023.
The Chinese are trying to create a limitless energy source by cloning the kind of nuclear fusion that happens on the Sun. If they manage to succeed, there would be a massive shift in the balance of power on a global scale. Let’s just way we’re nowhere close to where China is on this.
Oh, and they are also better at us with drone development too.
Yes, according to current information, China is considered the leader in drone technology, primarily due to the dominance of DJI, a Chinese company that holds a significant share of the global consumer drone market, making them the leading producer and seller of civilian drones worldwide.
We need to change up our policies concerning technology and we need to essentially burn the current education system in this country to the ground — metaphorically speaking — and rebuild it so we can be competitive with China before they end up becoming the dominate super power in the world.
