A series of rockets were fired at Ain al-Asad air base in Iraq, which currently hosts military forces from the United States, along with other international forces. The two Katyusha rockets were fired at the base, which is located in the western part of the country, according to security sources. However, it’s not yet, as of this writing, been made clear if there were any casualties or if the base sustained any damage as a result of the attack.
Things in the Middle East have continued to get worse ever since Hamas, a radical Islamic terrorist organization located in “Palestine,” launched a deadly assault on Israel last October. As a result, tensions in that region of the world have gotten extremely tense, more so than they’ve been in decades. In fact, there’s a threat, a credible one, that Iran is about to launch an assault on Israel. If that happens, look out. World War III is officially on the horizon.
According to the folks at The UK’s Daily Mail:
One security source said the rockets fell inside the base. President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet with his national security team in the Situation Room later on Monday amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel. The Islamic Republic could attack Israel in the next 24 to 48 hours following a major attack by Hezbollah that left two IDF soldiers injured, top western diplomats have warned. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told the G7 yesterday that an attack in response to Israel’s killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and Fuad Shukr in Beirut was imminent, Axios reported.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III reportedly spoke to his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant on Sunday to assure the Jewish state of U.S. support. It would mark the second time during the growing crisis in the Middle East that Iran has directly attacked Israel, the first being in April when it sent a salvo of missiles and drones overnight. Iran has clearly signaled that it intends to attack its foe, claiming it has the ‘legal right’ to respond to Haniyeh’s assassination. Foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani told a news conference: ‘No one has the right to doubt Iran’s legal right to punish the Zionist regime.’
The head guy of Iran’s paramilitary organization, the Revolutionary Guard, General Hossein Salami, also issued a threat to Israel, saying that the state was “digging its own grave’ by continuing to wage war against the Jew-hating murderers within terrorist group Hamas. I guess Jews are simply supposed to accept the shedding of the blood of their people and not fight back? Every country has the right to defend itself. That’s a given.
‘They will see the result of their mistake. They will see when, how and where they will get their response,’ Salami said during a speech. The threat from Iran comes just hours after Hezbollah, backed by the Iranian regime, launched a silo of 30 missiles from Lebanon towards upper Galilee.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, has stated that the Jewish state is fully prepared to endure a “multi-front war” with the nation of Iran, going on to add that during a Cabinet meeting that was held over the weekend, Israel has taken precautions to prepare for any scenario that comes their way.
Many on the left have accused Netanyahu of not being “sincerely interested in a ceasefire.” I don’t think most of us would be too keen on a ceasefire if the one who was sent to negotiate was someone that wanted to kill you and wipe your people off the face of the earth.
Let’s hope, by some miracle, that tensions between these countries are defused without further escalation of violence. I don’t know how likely that is, as it seems the world is absolutely on an unstoppable path toward a third global conflict, but we should be praying anyway.
